What's Ahead in Disruptor
Ketamine Camp, Masters of Disruption, and a Murder in Renaissance, Texas.
Hi there. Hope you’ve enjoyed the start of my newsletter. Here’s what’s ahead in Disruptor:
During the first two weeks of my launch, I’ll be posting daily. I’ll then be scaling back to a couple times a week or so.
Starting tomorrow, I’ll begin posting my first magazine-style feature for Disruptor. It’s a true crime story called “Renaissance, Texas: Sex and Death at the World’s Biggest RenFaire.” I’ll be serializing it over nine posts exclusively here. It’s 17 years in the making, for reasons I’ll explain in the story.
After “Renaissance, Texas,” I’ll be returning with posts from my longer longform project, Masters of Disruption: How the Gamer Generation Built the Future. So far, we’ve explored the future of the metaverse with John Carmack and John Romero. Next up: reconsidering the metaverse’s roots with visionary sci-fi author William Gibson and others.
Also, I have a new feature story out now in Outside magazine. It’s called “Camping with Ketamine.” It’s about a psychedelic mental health retreat I attended in Oregon earlier this year. It was…a trip. It’s available wherever you get paper things and it’s also online.
