Hey there. I’m happy to share the trailer for my upcoming graphic, Easy to Learn, Difficult to Master: Pong, Atari, and the Dawn of the Video Game. This is my third graphic novel with illustrator Koren Shadmi. It’s been an amazing experience learning how to adapt longform journalism for comics. I was a typical Marvel/DC fan growing up, but I was obsessed with MAD magazine and, later, underground comics. Technically, my first magazine publication was in MAD, which ran a letter of mine in September 1981 Issue No. 225 when I was 12. I remember telling my grandfather in Minneapolis about it at the time, and how mind-blowing it felt that he could go to his local newsstand and see my name in a magazine. Maybe that’s what gave me the bug to publish again.
Easy to Learn, Difficult to Master comes out September 13, but you can pre-order it now. For those of you in the Brooklyn area, Koren and I will be signing books and apparently playing Pong for free giveaways at the Twenty Sided Store on September 17, at 12:30 p.m.
